Quality over quantity may be how the old saying goes, but quantity is hard to ignore.
Corey Layman, also known as Developer, has been writing and recording a new song every week over the last year. Yes, he plays all the instruments himself, mostly guitars, bass, and drums, and even wrestles most of the recording process into an ordinary iPhone. His ambitious efforts fly under the unassuming yet descriptive name Project 52, and live entirely on his blog at developermusic.com.
A few weeks ago he released The Bitter Pill EP as a free download on his Bandcamp site to begin celebrating the end.
The unwavering pace and 2010-style lofi approach has helped attract a dedicated following (including more than a few listeners outside these United States) as well as some solid attention in the press. Check out Andy Mulkerin’s helpful breakdown in the City Paper this week.
Mr. Layman posted the project’s penultimate song last Sunday, and he concludes this week, recording the final song live with a full band at the end of his grand finale show.
The show is 8pm this Sunday, September 5th, at the Brillobox. Only $5 at the door.
